How It Works

Moisture Protection:

A heavy-duty polyethylene moisture barrier is laid over the concrete slab to block residual ground moisture.

Battens Anchorage:

Kiln-dried hardwood battens are mechanically fixed over the moisture barrier at standard centers (typically 450mm).

Flooring Installation:

Timber boards are laid perpendicular to the battens using a combined glue-and-nail fixing technique:

Top-Nailing (Wide Boards): Boards wider than 130mm are glued and face-nailed directly into the battens through the top of the board for maximum hold.

Secret-Nailing (Standard Boards): Standard-width boards can be glued and secret-nailed through the tongue at a 45° angle, keeping all fasteners completely hidden.

Key Advantages

Level Subfloors:

Easily levels out uneven or out-of-spec concrete slabs using packers under the battens.

Superior Comfort:

Creates a natural underfoot flex and improves thermal insulation compared to direct-stick methods.

Reliable Stability:

Provides strong mechanical anchoring and accommodates natural movement in solid timber.

Note: Ensure your site clearance allows for the 35mm–60mm total build height required by the batten framework and board thickness.
